New research from eClinical Solutions highlights AI adoption and focus on risk-based strategies in 2025
Findings from eClinical Solutions LLC’s 2025 Industry Outlook highlight the growing emphasis on risk-based strategies and the evolving role of artificial intelligence (AI) in clinical trials.
The company, a provider of digital clinical software and services, has released its outlook, based on a survey of 135 clinical data professionals across biopharmaceutical companies, contract research organizations (CROs), and biotechnology firms.
The company noted that the 2025 data indicates a shift in focus away from the exploratory phase of AI adoption, with 72% of respondents having integrated or considering AI for multiple applications. However, there is a notable increase in organizations that have no plans to integrate AI. In contrast, nearly twice as many experts this year emphasized the potential impact of risk-based strategies on efficiency and outcomes compared to 2024.
Additional findings include:
- 59% of respondents prioritize providing real-time data access across clinical teams.
- Only 33% consider their organization’s tech stack highly effective at managing risk.
- 98% of AI adopters face challenges, with issues such as regulatory compliance and data privacy emerging as significant pain points.
Raj Indupuri, CEO and co-founder of eClinical Solutions, stated, “AI can support the industry in driving tomorrow’s breakthroughs, but organizations must build an interoperable data infrastructure to create a foundation for innovation.”
The report also revealed that while 75% of organizations use outsourcing partners for clinical trial data, many report unmet expectations, particularly in terms of meeting timelines and delivering high-quality results. Diane Lacroix, vice president of clinical data management at eClinical Solutions, emphasized the importance of choosing vendors who prioritize innovation and efficiency in handling complex trial designs and emerging data types.
